Liposuction

Liposuction is a surgical procedure that aims to remove excess fat from specific areas of the body, such as the abdomen, thighs, hips, buttocks, arms, or neck. It is typically performed on patients who have struggled to lose weight through diet and exercise alone and want to achieve a more sculpted and toned appearance.

The procedure involves making small incisions in the targeted area and inserting a thin, hollow tube called a cannula. The cannula is then moved back and forth to break up the fat cells and suction them out of the body using a vacuum-like device. Liposuction can be performed using different techniques, including tumescent, ultrasound-assisted, and laser-assisted liposuction.

Liposuction is typically performed under general anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation and takes one to two hours to complete, depending on the size and number of areas being treated. Recovery time can vary, but most patients are able to resume normal activities within a few weeks.

Like any surgical procedure, liposuction carries some risks, such as bleeding, infection, uneven contours, and changes in skin sensation. It is important to discuss the potential risks and benefits of liposuction with a qualified plastic surgeon before deciding to undergo the procedure.

Liposuction is not a weight-loss solution, and it is not recommended for patients who are significantly overweight or obese. It is intended for patients who are close to their ideal weight and want to address stubborn areas of fat that have not responded to diet and exercise.
